What is Pasta Primavera?

Pasta Primavera is a light and creamy pasta dish packed with fresh vegetables. “Primavera” means “spring” in Italian, which is why this recipe usually includes bright and colorful veggies. Even though it looks fancy, it’s actually simple to make and perfect for lunch or dinner.

This homemade version has tender pasta coated in a creamy garlic parmesan sauce with sautéed vegetables that add freshness and crunch.

Preparation Time

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Servings: 4

Ingredients

For the Pasta

  • 300g pasta (penne, fettuccine, or spaghetti)
  • Water for boiling
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Vegetables

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 small carrot, sliced thin
  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • ½ cup peas

For the Creamy Sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley
  • Extra parmesan cheese

Instructions

Step 1: Boil the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and keep about ½ cup pasta water aside.

Step 2: Cook the Vegetables

Heat olive oil and butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 2 minutes until soft.

Add garlic and stir for a few seconds until fragrant.

Now add broccoli, carrots, zucchini, and bell peppers. Cook for about 5–6 minutes until slightly tender but still colorful.

Add cherry tomatoes and peas, then cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

Lower the heat and pour in the heavy cream. Stir gently and let it simmer for 2 minutes.

Add parmesan cheese, black pepper, chili flakes, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix until the sauce becomes creamy and smooth.

If the sauce feels too thick, add a little reserved pasta water.

Step 4: Combine Everything

Add the cooked pasta into the pan and toss everything together until the pasta is fully coated in the creamy sauce.

Cook for 1–2 more minutes so all the flavors blend nicely.
